Corinthians assegura classificação às oitavas da Libertadores faltando duas rodadas.

Nesta quinta-feira (7), o Corinthians alcançou o feito de ser o primeiro time brasileiro a assegurar sua vaga nas oitavas de final da Copa Libertadores. Essa classificação precoce foi obtida com duas partidas de antecedência, favorecida pelo placar de 1 a 1 entre Platense e Peñarol, ocorrido em Buenos Aires, desfecho que concluiu a quarta jornada do Grupo E.

Depois de conseguir o resultado de 1 a 1 contra o Corinthians has secured its spot in the next phase of the Copa Libertadores. This comes after a draw against Santa Fe in Bogotá last Wednesday (May 6th), bringing their total to 10 points, making them mathematically uncatchable for teams outside the qualification zone. Platense, currently second with seven points, also secured their early qualification.

With both teams qualified, they will now compete for the group leadership in the remaining rounds. The top spot could be decided in their direct confrontation on May 27th at the Neo Química Arena.

Corinthians’ qualification caps an undefeated campaign so far, with three wins and one draw in four games, scoring seven goals and conceding only one under coach Fernando Diniz. Their next match in the tournament is against Peñarol in Uruguay on May 21st.
